NM Tax & Registration Fees on the Rise

A New Mexico transportation package is working through the House for final approval before it can be sent to Gov. Bill Richardson.

The package, as it stands, has provisions that will increase diesel fuel tax by 3 cents per gallon, increase registration fees for motor vehicles by 33% and also raise the weight-distance or mile tax by 38%.

ATA assists members with CA apportioned trailer fee refund

According to the ATA, the Litigation Center will assist motor carriers that are ATA members with the filing of a refund claim form in order to preserve the carrier's right to receive a refund of the apportioned trailer fees collected by California after December 31, 2000.

California's statute of limitation for the filing of any refund claim is three years from the payment date of a fee or tax. This means that applications need to be filed by December 31, 2003 to ensure the maximum claim. Interested ATA member carriers should contact the ATA Litigation Center for more information.
